Cowra's kids will find a pyramid complete with hieroglyphics to explore alongside some special Egyptian visitors as part of the library's Summer Reading Club.
The club is a free program delivered by the State Library of Queensland to encourage children to read throughout summer under theme of 'Uncover, discover'.
Cowra Librarian, Terry Mills-Edwards, said the club was designed to combat the summer slide.
"I know they've been studying all year and the last thing you want to do is come into the library to do serious stuff so we're just focusing on recreational reading, recreational activities," she said.
"They're certainly welcome to come in on the days we have activities, which is Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and once the activities are finished, they can go into the pyramid and just play around.
"We'll also be holding a treasure hunt as part of our school holiday activities and part of that will be creating their name from Egyptian hieroglyphics onto a cartouche which is actually inside the pyramid."
She said the club would run until the end of the month with an aim to increase library membership.
"We intend to focus on increasing our membership, both the library profile in the community and membership," she said.
"We're currently under half but by the end of the year, I anticipate being well and truly over half of our community as library members as we will be increasing events and activities this year."
Ms Mills-Edwards said the COVID-19 pandemic had made running programs like this difficult, but it was exciting to offer something over the holiday period.
"It's been challenge, trying to run activities because of the pandemic, we still have to follow the health rules," she said.
"So it took a bit of time to get the pyramid together, we had a few of our recent volunteers, Jodie Joans, Jan Ellis and Emma Sargent [take part].
"They helped create the pyramid out of fridge boxes we got from Martin's Electrical."
She said as well as local activities there were a number of fun online ideas at the program's website www.summerreadingclub.slq.qld.gov.au
