Anthony Smith (Kak) is well known around Cowra businesses but he now has the job of finding the young people to fill the growing number of available apprentice and traineeships.

Cowra Community Development Company Pty Ltd is employing Anthony to help young Cowra school leavers to take up one of the many opportunities available in the town.
Already he has a long list of vacancies and has placed a couple of young people into work experience and positions.
Mr Smith said he had only contacted a few businesses and already had opportunities in sign writing, hospitality, rural product office support, administration, fitting and turning machinist, photography and machine operators.
Chairman of the Company, Bill Murphy said the organisation had been hearing for some time about the shortages of apprentices and trainees in the district and wanted to help the situation.
"It seems like there has been a disconnect between students and businesses and somehow we need to get them together," he said.

"Anthony has a great trade and business background and understands the barriers to local employment.
"He will be working with school students to find out what their interests are and help them get experience or more knowledge of the opportunities with local businesses.
"At the moment there are more than 500 registered licenced businesses and tradies in Cowra and they are very busy."
Mr Smith said he would be concentrating on Year 11 and 12 students next year to find out their intents, advise on what courses they should do and organise work experience in their interest area.
He will oversee the process and ensure the right student is in the right traineeship and doing the right course.
He is keen to hear from a young person or a business who would like to be involved in this Not-For-Profit project.
