The river hit 12.4m around midday on Saturday, with the river still rising according to WaterNSW.
As a result of the flooding, caravans have been forced to move at the Cowra Van Park and a number of roads across the Cowra Shire have been closed.
River levels
The Lachlan River flood peak is currently at Cowra, according to the Lachlan NSW SES Unit, and is expected to reach Nanami on Saturday night, with major flooding.
The flooding is a result of heavy rainfall and increased spills from Wyangala Dam.
Major flooding is likely at Forbes, Cottons Weir and Jemalong from early next week.
The Lachlan River at Nanami is expected to exceed the moderate flood level (9.70 m) Saturday afternoon.
The river level is likely to reach around 11.40 metres early Sunday morning, with major flooding.
The Lachlan River at Forbes Iron Bridge is expected to exceed the minor flood level (8.80 m) Saturday afternoon.
The river level is expected to exceed the moderate flood level (9.50 m) Sunday morning and may reach the major flood level (10.55 m) Monday afternoon.
The Lachlan River at Cottons Weir is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (5.30 m) Sunday evening.
The river level is likely to reach the major flood level (6.60 m) late Monday afternoon.
The Lachlan River at Jemalong Weir Downstream is likely to reach the major flood level (7.70 metres) during Wednesday.
Road closures
According to Lachlan NSW SES, as of 12.45pm on Saturday, November 13, the following roads are closed:
- Lachlan Valley Way (Forbes Rd) at Merriganowry
- Lachlan Valley Way (Boorowa Rd) closed from Legh St to Morongola Rd. Detour in place via Olympic Highway
- Darbys Falls Rd at the Lachlan River (pictured)
- Kangarooby Rd near Cootes Cottage at Gooloogong
- Conimbla Rd
- Campbell St, Cowra
- Noonbinna Rd
- Noonbinna East Rd
- Low Level Bridge, Cowra
- Brook Lane
- Davidsons Bridge, Merriganowry Rd
There is also a lot of water over the road at the intersection of Darbys Falls Rd and Carro Park.
There are a number of diversions in place:
Cowra to Boorowa - Alternate route available via Olympic Way through Young. Vineyard Estate residents use Olympic Way.
Cowra to Gooloogong - An alternate route is available via Grenfell or Canowindra.
