Given plenty of time to settle towards the rear of the field Will To Excel, trained by James Ponsonby, proved a class above its opponents to record a five and a half length win in a Benchmark 58 over 2100 metres.
A son of champion sire High Chaparrel the winner was well supported in betting shortening from its opening quote of $5 before starting a $3.50 favourite.
Those responsible for the betting move had little to worry about once Cahill unleashed the breaks turning from home, Will To Excel putting the result beyond doubt with an explosive turn of foot.
The win was Cahill's 29th for the 2021-2022 season.
In contrast you couldn't have asked for a closer contest than what the the second event on the program, the Kennards Hire F&M Maiden Plate (1000m) delivered.
The Gary Portelli trained Premosphere ($1.30) went to the race a heavily backed favourite on the back of two second places in her first four starts.
Ridden by Brodie Loy, Premosphere jumped to the front and was given no peace in the early stages before skipping away to what looked a winning lead when the field turned for home.
Racing greenly the Portelli trained galloper held on by the barest of margins to defeat Miss Capella ($19), ridden by Shaun Guymer, which made up many lengths in the straight.
Speaking afterwards, Portelli said he was a little worried.
"When she was zig-zagging everywhere and I saw Jarrod Austin's horse coming I was thinking 'oh no'," he said.
"Brodie got beat (on a) $1.65 favourite at Bathurst the other day and I thought here we go again."
While the former Orange-based trainer wasn't able to be there in person on Tuesday, he was still pleased to see racing return to Towac.
