Magical Bear said 'challenge accepted' to such an ordeal and claimed what initially looked to be a very unlikely victory in the day's feature Stan Cassidy Memorial at the Bathurst track.
Race favourite Magical Bear ($1.95, Pamela Braddon) would have had many punters tearing their hair out when he missed the start by more than a length against a strong field of high-graded runners.
However, not only did the talented dog catch up to the back of the field within a few strides, he started to weave through the field like his rivals were stuck in mud.
And while the track was indeed a little soft due to the day's rain it did little to stop the comeback mission of Magical Bear.
Edaline Bale got away strongly from box four and Bow Buster was also in the mix before Magical Bear flew past them along the rail.
He would go on to record nearly a six length win in a fast time of 17.70, with Bow Buster ($18, Sam Bell) holding on for second.
The win takes Magical Bear to 11 wins from 17 careers starts.
"He's never been out of form. He's just been in form his whole life and has been a great dog," Paul Braddon said following the dominant win.
"I've never taken him any further than the 300. Maybe he'll be able to go a bit further but he's been going so well over this distance so I thought I'd just leave him here.
Magical Bear was the first leg of a winning double for Braddon with Carla's Magic leading throughout to win by a neck.
The Bathurst double followed a big day at Temora on Sunday for the Braddon kennel where they saluted with three winners.
The Geoff Curtale trained Disco Diva was another Cowra winner at the Bathurst meeting on Monday.
Only moderately away Disco Diva trailed the heavily tried favourite Springview Magic into the back before finishing strongly to score in a good 30.08 at the good odds of $8.
