Elvine Elliot-Horsfall marked her 107th birthday on Saturday however lockdown didn't stop her from enjoying cake, cards and presents from friends.
Born on August 21, 1914, Elvine went on to work as a nurse for five decades, as well as serving with the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) with the Red Cross during World War II, from 1940 until 1944.
Speaking to the Cowra Guardian in 2015, Elvine said VADs took on the jobs nobody else wanted to do, carrying out unpaid domestic and quasi-nursing duties in hospitals and convalescent homes.
She said better working conditions for nurses was the most "amazing change" she had seen throughout the duration of her life.
"Nurses have a much better life, better pay," she said.
And after spending five decades helping those in need, Elvine said there was one secret to a long life.
"Hard work," she said.
