Peter Dawson saw a need and suggested to his old Lions Club that maybe they could help.
Mr Dawson had spent a bit of time at Cowra Hospital and he, along with other patients there, had to be weighed on a regular basis.
"I wasn't too steady on my feet and it was a bit tricky to get me on the scales," he said.
"I had heard about a wheelchair that weighs you so I asked my old Cowra Lions Club if they might purchase one so other patients could be helped."
President of Cowra Lions Club, Graham Apthorpe, said the members jumped at the suggestion.
"Peter's idea typifies Lions," he said.
"Where there's a need, there's a Lion and after discussing it with Cowra Health Service Manager, Pauline Rowston, the deal was done.
Mr Apthorpe said projects such as this are made possible through the Cowra Lions Mini Lotto.
"The funds raised through the sale of these tickets help our club to assist the local community," he said.
