There is an opportunity for you to get help locally.
ATO Accredited Community Volunteer Nikki Kiss can help you prepare your return under the Tax Help Program from now until October.
Each year she helps prepare more than 100 tax returns for local residents and sees her role as not helping the ATO, but the community.
"Although I am ATO accredited, I consider myself to be volunteering for our community," she said.
"Preparing tax returns can be extremely distressing for some of our decent, hard-working citizens, and I feel a real connection with them when I'm able to take that burden away.
"I just love to hear them say, 'see you next year' with a smile.
"One year I had my newborn grandson with me while I prepared returns and my regulars enquire every year about him.
"But I also enjoy familiarising the younger generation with the tax system which it is an investment in our future."
People are eligible for tax help if their income is around $60,000 or less for the financial year and they didn't:

- Run a business, including as a sole trader.
- Have partnership or trust matters.
- Sell shares or an investment property.
- Own a rental property.
