Replying to a post on the Canowindra High School's facebook page advising that the school will remain open with classes as normal a small number of parents have expressed concerns that some teachers at the school live in Orange.
"School is supposed to be in lock down that means the same as last year online school. Not okay at all," one parent said.
While one parent said they would be keeping their child at home another didn't want their child to be disadvantaged.
"I personally think it's dumb that staff are going to travel from Orange to Canowindra High this week, but if I keep my daughter home she'll be disadvantaged," the parent said.
Others had no hesitation in keeping the children at home.
"My daughter won't be going. Not worth the risk," one parent said.
"Common sense. Now that is a lesson a lot need to learn," another said.
And "I think everyone if they can should stay home including teachers and students", another said.
All schools in Cabonne Local Government area, which includes Canowindra, Orange Shire and Blayney Shire are currently operating under Level 3 restrictions, as approved by NSW Health.
"All staff and students are still expected to be at school," NSW Health says.
Masks and face coverings
Schools will operate under new restrictions which include a need for all teachers to wear masks both indoors and outdoors - this includes in playgrounds and on school grounds.
While at school, masks or face coverings are required in all indoor settings for all students in Year 7 and above.
Educators in Early Childhood Education and Care settings will also be required to wear masks, including when caring for and educating children.
Students and staff can continue to travel to and from school as per the public health advice. Masks are mandatory on public transport. This applies to students aged 13 years and over, and staff when travelling to and from school.
Parents and carers must follow their school's advice regarding changes to student drop off and pick up.
This includes staying in the car when dropping off and picking up children if it is safe to do so. This does not apply to drop off and pick up from outside of school hours care (OOSHC) as sign in and out procedures are required.
Parents should:
- follow the physical distancing advice for their local area and avoid gathering outside of school gates
- remain outside of school grounds (some exceptions may exist re SSP, vulnerable students or students with disability)
- Adhere to mask-wearing requirements and sign-in using the Service NSW QR code when entering the school.
These measures are in addition to current guidelines which restrict all non-essential visitors, including parents and carers, from entering school sites.
