After an average start out of the boxes Nangar Blue ($1.95) trained by Cowra's Geoff Curtale, was stuck in midfield during the Red Dog Maiden (307 metres) and looking for a way towards the front of the field, when a chaotic moment at the head of the field gave him the break he needed.
The first dog to come undone was Flighty Ninja, who was racing in front of Nangar Blue before a bump put her to the back of the pack.
Then front runners Daisy's Girl and Brother Jon got tangled up, giving Nangar Blue passage to the front.
However, Nangar Blue showed he wasn't some slouch who was handed a win - he bolted well clear over the final 100 metres to win by 6.5 lengths.
It was the fourth career start for Nangar Blue and the second for the Curtale kennel after coming across from Dennis Barnes.
Brother of winning trainer Geoff Curtale, Michael, said the dog has plenty of potential.
"They paid a bit of money for him so hopefully he can do better than that next time. I know he won easily in the end, but the time was slow. He's still very green and he's got a lot to learn about racing," he said.
"Clients of my brother bought him off the Barnes' when they came back from Grafton."
Woodstock trainers Richard Griffiths and Darren Wort also met with success at the meeting.
Having its fourth career start Smiling Politely ($4.80) prevailed by a head for Griffiths in a 307 metre maiden taking full advantage of the gun inside draw racing to the lead and although getting a little wide hung on to score in a good 17.89.
Deposit Taken continued Wort's recent good form leading all the way in a 1-3 wins over the same distance running a tidy 17.91 as a $5 chance.
