In a small ceremony on Sunday afternoon, Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West, joined the Cancer Action Group's Jean Sandberg and Connie Morrison in opening the month long exhibit.
Mrs Sandberg said it was an exciting moment to see the launch of the exhibition.
"Connie's worked very hard and put a lot of work in to it, so we are very excited to kick off our fundraising," she said.
"Hopefully it will go well, we've had a great response so far and we've only just opened it.
"It means so much, it's locals helping locals, and that to me is just so important."
Mrs Sandberg said the funds raised from the exhibition would go towards purchasing additional treatment chairs for the Cowra Hospital's chemotherapy ward.
"They are already going through so much, so the comfort of the patient is so important for them," she said.
"But if something untoward happens, these chairs can drop down into a bed and they can be taken to ED."
The brains behind the exhibition is the Cancer Action Group's Connie Morrison who said it was pleasing to see the exhibition underway.
"It's been a lot of work getting everything in and getting all the paintings in, but it's been worth it," she said.
"When we first talked about this and holding the auction, I was hoping to have about six to eight pieces.
"But we have 18 currently, which is amazing, and people have been so keen to donate."
Cr West said he was delighted to be part of opening the exhibition.
"It demonstrates again the wonderful work the Cowra and District Cancer Action Group are doing in both raising funds, which have been well spent on services over the last 10-15 years, but also promoting the conversation around cancer and the impact it has on our community," he said.
"They've done some significant lobbying over the years, they have been a really successful organisation, and it's great to be able to support them."
The exhibition will culminate with an auction night at 7pm on May 29, at the Cowra Golf Club.
Tickets are $15, which includes nibbles and a glass of wine on arrival.
