In a breed show where numbers were slightly up, judge Steve Carter of Backjack Shorthorns, Tumut, cast his eye over nine entries that came from Victoria and NSW.
Exhibiting three animals, including two junior heifers and a junior bull, Christie Fuller and Gavin Iseppi of Diamond Red Angus had all their entries receive accolades and won the stud first in the breeder's group class.
Junior and grand champion female, as well as supreme exhibit, went to Diamond Quiet A Catch Q503, a daughter of Red Cockburn Assassin 624D out of GK 21 Ruba L09.
"She's power, she's performance... there is a lot of good about this heifer," Mr Carter said. "She is a big individual with soundness and presence.
"You could put this heifer in rings all over the country and she would be competitive."
Quite A Catch has success in her blood, being a daughter of the multiple interbreed winning female, GK 21 Ruba L09, who won supreme interbreed exhibit at the Royal Melbourne Show and interbreed female of the Royal Adelaide Show in 2018.
Herself she also was the runner-up in the $1400 Canberra Royal heifer jackpot competition the night prior.
Her stall mate Diamond Romance R438, sired by Red DMM Mission, was the reserve champion junior heifer, and they paired up to take out the pair of junior heifers.
Junior and grand champion bull was 10-month-old Diamond Red Revolver, a son of breed-leading sire Red Fine Line Mulberry 26P out of Goondoola Miss D G02, the cow that won the 2016 Sydney Royal Red Angus Feature Show.
"He is a nice individual that is structurally sound, good through the front end and has enough capacity to him," Mr Carter said.
Red Revolver went on to runner-up in the interbreed bull competition.
Mr Carter commented it was the strength behind the shoulder of the junior champion bull that got him over the reserve junior champion, Yuroke Quinn.
Exhibited by first-time Canberra competitors Peter and Robyn Simmie of Yuroke Red Angus, Yuroke, Quinn was a 17-month-old son of Red Six Mile Grand Slam 130Z.
