If you haven't heard of them yet, Mixed Nuts is a not-for-profit community group of rural, isolated women who get together every Tuesday between 9.30am and 1pm to share a love of craft at the Gooloogong Soldiers Memorial Hall.
They are often asked about their unusual name. It came about at a meeting of founding members, where they touched upon their 'assorted' backgrounds, needs and intent to maintain a positive, fun environment. Somebody laughingly referred to the group as 'Mixed Nuts' and so, the name was born.
Gooloogong becomes a central hub every Tuesday for regular members from Gooloogong, Cowra, Merriganowry, Canowindra and Grenfell. A number of casual members too often join from time to time.
They began with an emphasis on natural fibre and traditional crafting methods but seven years later, they have more dynamic interests.
While the group still enjoy the traditional skills of spinning, weaving, felting, knitting, crochet and quilting, exploring new ideas (as a group and individually) is what they are about.
They explore a bit of everything - from fabric dyeing to soaping, candle making, felt art, mosaics, acrylic pouring, scrapbooking and even water colour painting.
They love a friendly chat over morning tea, so if you're out this way, be sure to drop in. Visitors are always welcome.
