Louise's lovely story as Cowra Evening CWA's 'woman behind the badge'

Cowra Services Club was again the venue for the February meeting of Cowra Evening CWA.

State Vice-President, Judy Houghton, presented Long Service Bars to Mary Cooper and Jenny Kelly to mark their 20 years of continuous active CWA membership.

Judy informed us of the latest news from CWA of NSW, including that the rooms of CWA Millthorpe branch have been refurbished after they received a $50,000 grant.

Branch President, Ann Apthorpe, spoke about recent activities, notably the very successful Australia Day luncheon at Cowra Golf Club as well as recent fundraising efforts from the Pop-Up Shop and the Fly Oz raffle.

Ann also took the opportunity to again congratulate member Cheryl McAlister on being named Cowra's Citizen of the Year and presented her with a magnificent bunch of flowers provided by member Jill Allen.

Secretary Cheryl reported on the latest news from Central Western Group, while Treasurer Jo Chambers asked the branch to authorise the annual allocation of funds to CWA of NSW and worthy causes in Cowra and the Central West.

Rowena Casey, Chair of the Royal Easter Show Catering Committee, reported that hopefully the Sydney Show will be held this year, from April 1 to April 12 under COVID-Safe guidelines.

Volunteers will be needed to work either for the morning or afternoon sessions during the show and anyone can apply, not just CWA members.

Anyone interested can contact Rowena for more information.

Evening branch member, Louise Packer was the guest speaker as 'the woman behind the badge".

She gave a very interesting account of her life from growing up to living in Cowra for the last 41 years.

Rowena Casey thanked Louise for sharing her significant life moments and presented her with a beautiful posy in appreciation.

Anyone interested in joining our branch would be warmly welcomed.

We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at Cowra Services Club at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, including dinner.

For more information contact President Ann on 0414 849 829 or Secretary Cheryl on 0439 048 541.

Visitors and guests are also always welcome but need to book in for dinner by the Monday before the meeting.

Our next meeting will be on March 10.
