Police are appealing for information after 40 bales of hay were destroyed by fire in the state's central west.

According to police, at about 6am on Sunday, January 10, emergency services responded to reports of a shed fire at a rural property on Casuarina Drive near Gooloogong.

NSW Rural Fire Service personnel contained and extinguished the fire, which destroyed 40 bales of hay.

Officers attached to Central West Police District attended and examined the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known; however, has been deemed suspicious.

Investigations continue.
