The exhibition features a number of cars from the racing team including the 1990 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500, which was driven by Dick Johnson and John Bowe at the Bathurst 1000 in 1991 and 1992.
"Dick Johnson was a fairly successful Queensland state-based racer and in the 1970s, he had a few starts at Mount Panorama," he explained.
"In 1980, one of the most famous incidents in history was when he hit the rock while in the lead in the Bathurst 1000. It all but destroyed his hopes of going on.
"There was a huge public campaign, where they donated money. That was the seed that formed the team. Dick Johnson came back in 1981 with a new car that he had built with the money and won the Australian Championship and Bathurst.
"That's what really started a really long successful run for the team and himself for the next four decades."
The exhibition started back in October and it's set to run through to Easter 2021, to give interstate visitors a chance to see the exhibition at its Bathurst home.
"Because of the border closure, we wanted to give our interstate visitors as much of an opportunity as possible to have them come in," he said.
The museum can be found adjacent to Bathurst's Mount Panorama motor racing circuit at the end of Conrod Straight. It is open every day but Tuesday, from 9am-4.30pm.
