The club will launch its new season, with a number of changes forced on it by COVID-19 and a number of changes aimed at increasing participation, starting on Friday night, November 6.
"We've been guided really well by Triathlon NSW in terms of getting the sport back up and running this season," Cowra club president Glen Hudson said.
Triathlon NSW have developed a lot of regulations and requirements that the club will be following strictly; things like distancing on bike rack and no after-race gatherings or functions.
"That's a blow, not having the functions, we always try and put on a BBQ or something after the races but we'll still be racing."
While the lack of after-race socialising isn't ideal, the club hopes its changes see a return to its strong numbers of several years ago.
It is especially hoping to see an increase in junior participation. The youngest of its members race entirely within River Park making their course extremely safe.
The first race of the new season kicks off at 6pm on November 6 at the Cowra Aquatic Centre.
Other club races are scheduled for November 20, December 4, December 18, January 22, February 5, February 19, March 5 and March 19.
At this stage Cowra is hoping to host its leg of the Central West Triathlon Series on Sunday, March 7.
Club Race Distances will be as follows:
Kids Course - Little pool swim, 500m bike (off road), 400m run (on River Park run track).
Beginners - 50m swim, 2km bike, 800m run.
One Lap - 100m swim, 4.5km bike, 1km run.
Two Lap - 200m swim, 9km bike, 2km run.
Under the club' Covid Safe plan, as advised by Triathlon NSW the club is asking:
- Please do not attend if feeling unwell, non essential spectators advised not to attend.
- Use the hand sanitisers provided prior to entering transition.
- Practice social distancing at all times while at the event.
- Keep coughs covered.
- Competitors encouraged to "turn up, race, go home".
To race you need to join Triathlon Australia at triathlon.org.au and nominate Cowra as your club.
