October 20
Four matches of the Major Fours were played.

Sandra Davis, Elsie Bryant, Josephine Davies and Dorcas Presnell defeated Ann Collins, Carole Prosper, Shirley Muir and Myrna Peterson.
Marlene Nicholls, Judith Day, Dawn Dye and Sharon Bohanna defeated Helen Withers, Vera Penhey, Pattie Chapple and Jane Kiernicki.
Kerrin Fisher, Barbara McGilvray, Eileen Brown and Leila Burns defeated Helen Winwood-Smith, Joan Bailey, Beverley Bundy and Ann Castelli.
All matches were really enjoyable to watch but I think the ladies were glad to finish as it was the first real warmth of summer on the greens, and they were starting to feel the heat. The hotter it got the noisier they got.
The semifinals of the Major Fours was played on October 22. It would have been another great day as all of the protagonists displayed a quality of concentration and physical dexterity, but taking into account the number of moans about the heat it is surprising how well all involved played. The next round promises to be just as enjoyable for both players and spectators.
Melbourne Cup
The ladies will be holding a Melbourne Cup bowls day on Tuesday, November 3. The format will be Mixed Triples and mufti is the choice of the day.

We will be having sausage sandwiches, lucky door prizes, winner prizes, runner up prizes, raffle prizes and a special prize for the Best Hat (or in the case of the Secretary, the most colourful hair).
