Cowra Tourism manager Belinda Virgo said the increased visitation to the town is obvious.

Accommodation is heavily booked throughout the town from bed and breakfasts to motel accommodation and caravan parks.

A search on accommodation website booking.com this week found just 10 rooms available on the site tonight, Friday, September 25 and just one room, at establishments registered with the site, on Saturday, September 26.

It's a similar situation next weekend, in the middle of the school holidays, with less than 20 rooms available Friday, October 2 and nothing available on Saturday, October 3.

Ms Virgo said the visitors are coming from Sydney's eastern suburbs and Canberra with most in the over 50 years of age bracket.

"They are coming from all over, we're getting a lot from Newcastle, the south coast, but the most significant change is we are getting visitation from regions we haven't before.

"We've never really had a huge amount from the eastern suburbs and north Sydney before.

"People are not travelling internationally or domestically and they'll gladly tell you on arrival they're supposed to be in Paris but they are here."

Ms Virgo said "we're experiencing higher than usual enquiries for Cowra's canola fields.

"This year has been spectacular for canola tourism," she said.

In previous years Cowra Tourism has organised and run canola tours but COVID restrictions meant this year's tours couldn't proceed in a COVID safe way.

As an alternative Cowra Tourism developed an online guide directing tourists to four trails where the crops could be admired.

"Because we chose not to do the canola tours this year we developed canola trails and that (online) guide was downloaded 2500 times and viewed 5000 times in the first week in August," Ms Virgo said.

"It's been incredibly popular.

"There has been a real interest in our wine, a lot more than usual and people just wanting to experience the country, open air experiences.

"Even though there is no Sakura Matsuri people are still wanting to come out and see our cherry blossoms too.

"We will be very busy," she said of the school holidays which start this weekend.

As well as hotel, motel and caravan park accommodation being in demand Ms Virgo said Cowra was also seeing a huge demand for B and B and Farmstays.
