The first race was held on Monday, September 7.
The club didn't like the weather forecast and the decision from the Fed to race on Saturday, September 5, so we did our own transport to Bourke with the grand total of 56 birds on board.
Jon South and his daughter Hannah took the birds up to Bourke, arriving early Sunday and found a shady spot to feed and water the birds.
The next morning the birds were up and away at 7am in great conditions.
Jon South took out first place clocking at 12.52.13pm and a velocity of 1426.27mpm (meters per minute).
In second place was Peter East clocking at 12.57.04pm and a velocity of 1398.84mpm and in third place was Ken Sigsworth clocking at 1.09.43pm and a velocity of 1353.07mpm to round of what was an extremely successful race with fantastic returns.
Then on Saturday, September 12, we joined up with the Midwest federation again for the second Bourke race.
Two members sent a total of 31 birds which were released at 8am along with birds from Nevertire, Trangie, Dubbo, Bathurst and Orange .
The pull of the bigger number of birds to the clubs up north made it a real slog for the birds down here, who didn't arrive until late in the day and most of them actually arriving early the following morning.
Matt Price took out first place clocking at 3.16.55pm with a velocity of 1112.66mpm and Peter East picked up second place clocking at 4.16.31pm and a velocity of 990.89mpm.
This week we move on to Barringun right at the Queensland border, a distance of 607km as the pigeon flies.
