The man behind the badge for this month was David Thomas who gave the members a quick run down of his life.
David was born in 1950 and in 1969 he joined the Commonwealth Bank at Goulburn.
He had many moves while working in the bank and he found early in his career whenever you were sent to a new town the first thing to do was to join a service club such as Apex or Lions which helped in settling into a new town.
David made the most of his appointments by becoming involved in the main activities offered, so when he went to Moruya it was surfing, then to Cooma where it was Skiing and Cowra where it was socialising and where he met Sue McLean whom he married in 1979.
He was then moved to Loxton in South Australia on the Murray River where the interest was the river and canoeing.
The next position was at Port Augusta where the attraction was deep water fishing and golf.
In 1994 David resigned from the bank and he and Sue moved back to Cowra where again he was involved in Lions, and golf.
He worked for Kit Kan for 10 years and then for Clean Cote for five years.
David finally retired for good and became more involved in Cowra activities, like on the Committee of the Cowra Golf Club, The Wine Show, Lions and many more.
The guest speaker for August was Glenn Morton, Glenn was introduced to the members by Allan Vorias.
Glenn is back in Cowra to redo the mural he painted on Allan's Shop 22 years ago.
Glenn didn't know what the theme should be because of his memories of the shop corner, which he passed every day on his way to school as a youngster when it was a service station.
He thought maybe it should be based on Beer and Gambling because his recall was that a man, Mick Saywaker, had a shop in the bottom block as well.
Mick was famous for his illegal gambling activities and his drinking prowess.
Glenn told the story of a bet that Mick had was that he couldn't drink a bucket of beer.
Mick took the bet and for a practice run he went to the pub at lunch time and had the publican serve him a bucket of beer which he drank.
He then went home for a rest and fronted again that evening, drank another bucket of beer and won the bet.
After giving it a thought Glenn decided the best theme was a painting of the Valley.
He wanted to pay respect to the farmers so the theme became the crops that a typical to Cowra.
To be able to adapt to a large scale art work he did the scene on a small canvas and worked the proportion of 64mm to a metre.
Glenn then talked about how he does colour variations and their application.
When asked how long the work takes him, Glenn replied that when he settles to work it is 60% or the time thinking and planning and 40% doing the painting.
Glenn was also asked if he had considered doing silo murals and his reply was no because it was too far to fall.
After a very interesting and entertaining talk Glenn was thanked by Cowra Probus member Ian Brown.
