Currently, prime lamb and sheep sales are held every Friday from 10am with the possibility of changing this day to Wednesday.
The Cowra Regional Livestock Selling Centre is owned and operated by Cowra Council, attracting a full contingent of both local and export buyers, with six selling agents based in Cowra using the centre on a weekly basis.
A brief meeting was held on Tuesday, July 28 between Cowra Council, some members of the Cowra saleyard committee, Cowra selling agents, farmers and stakeholders to discuss the benefits of moving the day to a mid-week sell.
Mayor of Cowra and Chairman of the Cowra Saleyard Committee, Councilor Bill West, encouraged regular users of the Saleyard to have their say.
"This is an important decision that needs to be carefully considered by those who support, work, buy, sell and use the facility on a Friday weekly basis," he said.
"Consideration of changing the selling day from a Friday to a Wednesday is a decision which has to be made as soon as possible."
"I encourage everyone who uses the facility to contact Cowra Council, your selling agent or the Cowra branch of the NSW Farmers Association to share your opinion on whether you think it is the right decision to make."
Public comment is now open and will close on Friday, August 7, at 4pm. Those wishing to provide feedback can contact the following people:
