A 37-year-old Cowra man who arrived at Cowra Local Court smelling of alcohol has been fined $300 and disqualified from driving for four months followed by a 12 month interlock period.

Nathan Paul Cleary of Brisbane Street was charged with a middle range PCA and left the courthouse prior to having his matter heard, informing a sheriff's officer, "I have told the court lady I'm pleading guilty, I am not staying".
"I know what happens in there. It's a first offence so nothing will happen, I might get a small fine or a warrant."
In reading out the message to the court, Magistrate Michael O'Brien told Police Prosecutor Beau Riley that both the Sheriff and Court Registrar who had taken the message could smell alcohol coming from Cleary.
According to police facts, around 12.10pm on May 9, Cleary was stopped by police on Pitt Street for a random breath test which returned a positive result.
He was then arrested and taken to Cowra Police station for a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.145 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.
In relation to his drinking, Cleary told police he had consumed 10 glasses of wine between 7pm and 2am the night before and had consumed no food.
At the time of his offending Cleary had an adult passenger and a young child in the vehicle.
