The executive committee today announced that the 2020 Cowra Show has been cancelled.
Cowra Show Society President, Matt Bohman, said the decision was made unanimously by the committee in a meeting on Tuesday, July 21.
"This decision was not made lightly, and we had the best interests of our community in mind," Mr Bohman said.
"The executive committee wishes to extend our gratitude to our valued sponsors for their continued support of our Cowra Spring Show."
Mr Bohman said there were a number of reasons for the decision, including Cowra's location and proximity to hotspot areas in Sydney, the health and safety of members, volunteers and the community, and the cancellation of other shows and events in the region.
"There were a number of key considerations. The unknown activity of the COVID-19 virus in October, and the possibility that competitors, traders, the showman's guild, attendees and other stakeholders may travel from areas of virus activity and bring it into our community," he said.
"The cancellation of major events such as the Australian National Field Days in Orange.... the age, and therefore vulnerability of many of our volunteers."

Cowra Show Society recommends members continue to participate and take out memberships, which are in due in August.
Mr Bohman said the society, which is a registered COVID safe business, would now turn it's attention to the NSW Poll Dorset Championships and promoting the newly refurbished pavilion for events.
"We look forward to working together to bring the Cowra community a fantastic show in 2021," he said.
