With the cancellation of Anzac Day services and marches due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, many instead chose to stand out in their driveways, front lawns and paddocks at dawn to hear the haunting rendition of The Last Post and Reveille, illuminated only by candlelight.
Standing on top of Bellevue Hill, Cowra and District Band leader Glenn McLeish led the performance, joined by Cowra RSL sub-Branch President Stephen Overman, who recited The Ode.
Throughout the day, locals privately laid wreaths at the Cenotaph, while others decorated houses, street lamps and footpaths with poppies.
