In these fast-moving, confusing times the Victorian Premier has set himself head and shoulders about the political pack with his clear and direct leadership. No mixed messages here.
And he did it again this morning when it was announced Victorian students will be educated from home during term two while VCE exams will be moved from October to December. And if the coronavirus situation didn't improve, Mr Andrews flagged potentially having 2020 exams in early 2021.
About 4000 SIM cards, 1000 internet dongles and more than 6000 laptops and tablets will be sent to students to help the effort. Schools will remain open for students who cannot stay home.
The government's decision was well-received by principals in Bendigo.
In NSW the Ruby Princess cruise ship shambles continues to haunt the state government, with Tasmania's third fatality linked to the ill-fated ship.
A team of 30 detectives are now investigating all matters related to the Ruby Princess.
It hasn't been plain sailing on the state's Mid-North Coast either where a police superintendent had to clarify yesterday's beach closure announcement. It seems exercising is OK as long as people adhere to the public health order.
In the Northern Territory common sense prevailed and an order which Mataranka residents risked a 14-day quarantine before they could make the 100km return trip from Katherine has been reversed.
The ACT Chief Minister hinted at a gradual rolling back of coronavirus restrictions for the territory after NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian flagged the possibility of relaxing some restrictions as soon as next month.
"If the advice in a couple of weeks' time is that there might be a couple of aspects that we can tweak to provide relief to our citizens, well then we'll take that advice," Ms Berejiklian said.
