In introducing the award, MC Marc McLeish said those on the honours roll embodied a passion and achievement in business even after retirement.
"This award is about acknowledging achievement, participation, involvement in business over a long period of time," he said.
"They continue to support the town and business on a local level
"This is more or less a lifetime achievement award where we are acknowledging somebody who has not only made it as a business person, but supports and continued on supporting once that time in business finished on a personal level."
Mr Chivers described his success and lifelong work in agriculture as "lucky".
"Gobsmacked, honoured, humbled, lucky," he said.
"Lucky that my forefathers put their feet down here about 170 years ago, lucky that I stayed.
"Lucky I was born with a love of livestock... a very demanding business, I've got the support of my family, I'm just so proud."
