The award finalists and winners were recognised front of 1000 guests, including Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Small Business Minister Damien Tudehope, at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on Friday, November 22.
"CGMOW is an amazing, much loved social enterprise that has been operating in Cowra for 60 years this year," service manager Denise Makin said after the organisation was recognised at the awards.
CGMOW was one of two Cowra finalists in the awards after taking out the central west award earlier this year in the Social Enterprise category.
Ms Makin said being recognised as a finalist was a great result for the staff and many volunteers who keep the service going in both Cowra and Grenfell.
The much loved service has a strong and huge footpirint that has been operating in Cowra for 60 years, covering more than 6500sq km, one of the biggest in NSW.
"We believe in food security for everyone."
Annually the service delivers 44000 meals.
"And many positive outcomes to our client's lives," Ms Makin said.
Employing seven local staff and utilizing the services of many more volunteers, Ms Makin said the service' motto is "More than Just a Meal" highlighting the social aspect of the service.
"Loneliness is a major problem in our society, having a severe detrimental affect on overall health and wellbeing.
"Meals on Wheels volunteers provide not only friendly and caring face to face social interaction with a client on a daily basis, but also a daily check on the clients overall wellbeing."
CGMOW provides opportunity for clients to socially engage with the wider community through regular Community Luncheons, group visits to local restaurants and cafes (Thursday Tasty Travellers) and even visits by bus to other central west towns (Wednesday Wandering Lunch Group).
"Our social interaction is always centred around a delicious meal, companionship and education," Ms Makin said.
