In light of the recent Aged Care Royal Commission Interim report, Weeroona would like to ensure the Cowra community that their primary focus has and always will be resident care. Elderly Australians maintaining independence is a focal point of the Commission and something that Weeroona supports wholeheartedly.
Facility Manager, Kate Chew, believes that Weeroona's lifestyles and activities programs play an important role when it comes to resident well-being. "Maintaining community ties is important for all residents. The social and emotional needs of our residents is what we value most. Connections with our local community means that there are always new ways to meet new people".
Weeroona recently announced that they are now officially the major sponsor of the Cowra Bowling Club, with the sponsorship to run for at least the next three years and demonstrates the home's commitment to maintaining community engagement.
When a resident enters Weeroona on either a respite or permanent basis, the Lifestyle Team conduct a cultural and social profile to learn more about the resident and how Weeroona can create an activity program to specifically meet their needs.
Weeroona's highly qualified team have training in Certificate 4 Leisure and Lifestyle, Diploma of Community Services, Diversional Therapy and are Qualified Tai Chi instructors. Each member of the team brings something to enhance the resident experience at Weeroona. Variety and knowledge is a key driver of improvement.
Another important element to every aged care home is the accommodation itself (resident rooms). Some residents prefer the comforts of their own space whilst other residents prefer companionship.
Weeroona's Director of Nursing, Rob Chew, said that families are often surprised at how much their loved one enjoys sharing a room with another resident.
"Some of the residents we have come to us wanting a private bedroom but quickly identify the benefits of sharing a room with another resident. Human interaction is an innate need we all have and it's always satisfying to see new friendships develop at the home. We certainly have little social clubs that form and it's great to see".
And as one of Cowra's largest employers, the entire team at Weeroona are endeavoring to ensure that the town always has the support of a quality residential aged care operator. Contact Kate Chew if you are interested in learning more about residential aged care on 02 6342 3333.
