GIRLS between the ages of four and nine are being encouraged to try soccer via a new program set to launch next week.

The Aldi Mini Roos For Girls program is a weekly session aimed at developing children's soccer skills and enjoyment of the game.
Tamworth co-ordinator Craig Drevell said the program was a great starting point for young girls.
"Our zone, Northern Inland Football, has one of the highest participation rates of junior girls in the state," Drevell said.
"We are hoping that through this program, we will be able to maintain that momentum and even improve our participation numbers."
As well as learning new skills and making new friendships, each child will also receive a gift bag including a drink bottle and shin pads.
"A lot of our sessions will be focused on having fun and game-based drills," Drevell said.
"We want to move away from the stock standard ball control stuff and really let the kids have some fun.
"Honestly, this program is really all about having fun and enjoying the game, so hopefully we might get a few more young girls involved."
Drevell said the program was not limited to "just newcomers" and that "kids with previous experience are more than welcome".
"The sessions run from October 21 to December 9 and we would love to see a lot of kids get involved," he said.
"Girls don't have to sign up after their first session either.
"Everyone is more than welcome to come down for a session, give it a try and see if they like it.
"Hopefully we see will see a good crowd turn up for it."
