Grenfell trainer-driver Mark Hewitt provided the closest thing to a win for the locals in Sunday's 2160m Cowra Bowling Club/CHRC Administrator's Pace, winning comfortably aboard Bobby Street.

While Cowra-based trainers Darryl Davis and Colin Fliedner both fielded horses - Dot Ayou and Ideal Billy respectively - they, and the rest of the field, were no match for Hewitt's five-year-old Brown Gelding, when push came to shove during the race's final lap.
Dot Ayou eventually finished in sixth, while Ideal Billy claimed ninth.
The Young trained Topsie Grinner finished in second more than seven metres back, while Malicious Fella and Overpowering, who started alongside each other in the second row, took out third and fourth place respectively.
However, despite Hewitt claiming what was ultimately an easy victory, it was the Katie Jenner-trained I'll Be a Lady who set the pace early, jostling to control the race alongside Dot Ayou, while Ideal Billy sat in third.
Bobby Street, meanwhile, settled into a comfortable rhythm, sitting in sixth place while others moved around trying to establish themselves in the race.
By the time the bell rang though, Overpowering, one of the horses, that like the winner, sat back and waited for the dominoes to fall, was the first to make its dash.
By the end of the penultimate bend, it had a short lived claim to taking the lead, with Hewitt and Bobby Street quickly reacting, the two horses engaging in a tete-a-tete until the final bend, where the winner, who earned his connections $3640 of prize money, made a decisive break.
While that was enough to secure the win, the fight for second was more dramatic, with Topsie Grinner, Malcious Fella and Overpowering all within metres of each other at the finish line.
Speaking afterwards, Hewitt said it was good to triumph at a venue that was celebrating a significant occasion.
"It's a pretty historic day, I was thinking about it coming across...100 years going back to that first meeting... To get to win a race here on a September day is very good," he said.
