Finding out information about aged care or applying for aged care residence can often be a confusing and difficult time. Weeroona Aged Care Residence has been providing first class care and accommodation to the Cowra community and surrounding region for over 25 years. On Wednesday, September 25, the team will be hosting a free event for any seniors or community members that interested in learning about aged care, available services and how the process of applying occurs. The information night will be held at the Cowra Bowling Club from 5.00pm to 6.00pm.

Weeroona Aged Care Residence is managed by husband and wife team, Rob and Kate Chew, and accommodates residents with all different levels of care needs. Kate Chew is the Facility Manager and has been involved with the aged care industry for 22 years. Prior to coming to Weeroona, Kate managed a large aged care and retirement village with 400 residents on the Mid North Coast where her roles included administration and management.
With a keen interest in accreditation standards, Kate has completed the ACSAA Assessors course, and taken on various roles including OH&S and CQI Coordinator, Learning and Development Officer, Management of Operations and Self Care Manager.
Kate and husband Rob, then purchased a caravan and travelled throughout Australia managing lifestyle van parks until Kate missed working in aged care. After settling in to Rob's home town of Cowra, Kate has made Weeroona her new 'work home' with the residents and staff of Weeroona an extended family.
Kate said that her aim was to simply make people's live better. "I want to enrich people's lives and give them a sense of purpose throughout their retirement years," she said. "I also want to help the staff do the best they can to achieve this goal. It's my passion".

As the Director of Nursing, Rob Chew has been in the health industry for over 30 years and has experience as a Director of Nursing in aged care, medical sales and immunisation nursing for the corporate industry.
After making the return to his hometown after close to 40 years away, Rob initially took up his dream job at the Cowra Golf Club's pro shop, however, when Kate took on the role of Facility Manager at Weeroona, Rob was offered the opportunity to join Kate at the helm of onsite management, and Rob accepted the position beginning his tenure as the home's Director of Nursing.
Rob's plan for Weeroona includes assisting staff to continue offering the best care and support for Weeroona's residents. It's a challenging time in the aged care industry but Rob said he was prepared to embrace the challenge, meeting it head on.
Located at 10 Comerford Street, Cowra, Weeroona Aged Residence is a 95 bed aged care home with approximately 130 staff that includes nurses, administration, hotel services, lifestyles and maintenance teams. The registered nurses are on duty 24/7, which is imperative to clinical care and ensures residents have direct access to care at all times.
Permanent and respite or short-term stay accommodation is available with great lifestyles programs and community interaction on offer, along with delicious meals that are prepared fresh onsite by Weeroona's kitchen team.
