Senior Men
In what was described by coach Chris Baratto as "a highly entertaining game", Cowra and Barnstoneworth FC engaged in a game of two halves at Edgell Park last Saturday afternoon, but it was the Barneys who made the most of their opportunities, taking home a 2-0 win.
While Cowra competed strongly in the first half, with some highly effective passing threatening but never quite getting through Barnstoneworth's defence on multiple occasions, the lack of conversion came home to roost in the second half.
Barnstoneworth's Jeremy Boulton and Brendon Manning were among the scorers, with the visiting side flipping the first half script to deliver a scoreline that while indicative of their second half dominance, Baratto didn't believe was indicative of the game's overall closeness.
Lucas Hayes and Sam Long were among Cowra's best in the loss, with the fourth placed Eagles taking on the top-of-the-table Barnstoneworth United at Jack Brabham Park this weekend.
Women's Seniors
Running with a reduced line-up after last year's grand final appearance, the women's Eagles continue to battle the Bathurst District Premier competition, remaining winless but continuing to fight on and put up a competitive effort.
Having the week off last week after playing two matches in two days slightly less than three weeks ago, they will host the Mudgee Wolves at Edgell Park this weekend, an opportunity to get a win against an opponent that sit only a win and a draw above them on the ladder.
Men's Reserves
Described by the coach as the reserves side's "best performance of the year" against the third placed Denley Moor Over 35s, the Eagles recorded a 2-1 upset to give themselves momentum after considerable improvement over the last few weeks.
Maintaining possession at Edgell Park with a "new found confidence" according to Baratto, the Eagles never let up, keeping the ball in their visitor's defence as Jackson Brown and Tristyn O'Reilly put the ball into the back of the net for Cowra.
The visitors' Phil Bennett also scored a goal but it wasn't enough to stop the Eagles from claiming a surprise victory.
Darcy Foxall and Ryan Hattenfels were judged best afield for the hosts, who will head over to Waratah Sports Ground to take on the the Waratah Wanderers this weekend.
