Brydon Ramien - the brother of Knights Centre Jesse - will make his Magpie debut this weekend after training with the group for the first last Saturday, while Jeremy Gordon returns to the fold from injury.
Assistant coach Steve Sutton said that Ramien will start on the bench in Sunday's clash, but is expected to get into the action straight away once he's on the ground.
"He'll probably play somewhere in the forwards," Sutton explained.
"[It's] going to be pretty exciting to see how he actually fares."
Sutton has a similar level of anticipation for Gordon's return.
"He's a massive in... he controls the game really well... he's very experienced... He's extremely well respected by all the playing group," adding that the two game break - a fixture alteration created by the Group 10 administration for last week's representative matches - has been beneficial for the Magpies, who've been injury ridden this year.
"The two week break we've had has probably been a blessing.
"It's given a few blokes a chance to get over ... a few niggles."
While Matt Naden is also back from suspension, Cowra isn't quite at full availability, with Jack Nobes nursing a fractured collarbone and Logan Harris away representing NSW at the Police Games.
Nevertheless, Sutton is excited for what the second-half of the season promises for his team.
"We're... not at full-strength, we're still missing three or four," the former senior coach said.
"We haven't really scratched the surface of what we think we can do... We know there's a lot of good football left in us."
He added that the team was keen to be more clinical with their game after some close losses during the first half of the season.
"We've created opportunities... and we just haven't been able to capitalise on those," he said.
"Hopefully with Jeremy back we'll be a bit more ruthless and the Hawks will be the first to experience that."
However, Sutton admitted that the Hawks will contain some challenges of their own, especially after the Magpies lost to them at home earlier in the year.
"They don't give you a lot... They can control the ball really well," he explained.
The first grade Magpies take on the Hawks at Wade Park on Sunday at 2.30pm, with League Tag kicking off proceedings from 11am.
