To add to the challenge, they were taking on a Bathurst Panthers side that had under-performed thus far in 2019, after making finals the year prior.
To say the visiting team desperately needed a win was an understatement, rendering the Magpies decided underdogs.
Around an hour later, as the final siren sounded, the Magpies had broken their losing streak, eking out a narrow 14-10 win against the Panthers to notch their first win for the year.
Centres Kristy-Lee Wylie (two tries) and Emilie Browne (one) both were crucial in ensuring that the Magpies got the job done.
Meanwhile, for the visitors, Monique Christie-Johnston scored both a try and a goal, while Amy Hotham made it over the line, but it wasn't enough.
The win still has the Magpies on the bottom of the ladder as they enter their second week off, but with reward for effort after a draw against the Workies earlier this year.
After this week's rep footy bye, the Magpies will travel away from home to take on the Orange Hawks next Sunday.
