Breeders from across the state will descend on Cowra for the championships, and despite most of the state suffering through drought conditions, Chief Steward Roger Traves said it is set to be a fierce competition.

"Despite recent difficult conditions, breeders have presented their sheep in excellent conditions at lead up shows and we are strongly looking forward to yet another quality competition," Mr Traves said.

In the last few years, there have been a few changes to the NSW Dorset Championships to attract a larger variety of breeders. One of these changes was the introduction of the schools section, where students are encouraged to not only compete, but take on knowledge from industry experts.

"To further develop the next generation into the fellowship of showing, we are continuing the schools section that was introduced in 2018," Mr Traves said.

"This section was enthusiastically received with strong showings and we look forward to future growth in this area."

This year will see the introduction of the invitation only Champion of Champions class, where the top ram from Cowra will compete against the best across Australia for $3000 prize money.
