Adam Lee Charnock, 24, of Liverpool Street, Cowra, failed to appear before the court charged with drive motor vehicle with illicit drug present in blood.
The charge was his first offence.
Magistrate Michael O'Brien chose to sentence Charnock despite his absence, saying he was given "an opportunity to appear before the court".
"He has a limited criminal history," Magistrate O'Brien said.
"However his traffic history doesn't assist him."
According to the police facts, about 2.35pm on December 27, 2018, Charnock's vehicle was stopped by police at the Low Level Bridge Road for the purpose of a Random Breath Test and Random Drug Test.
The initial breath test returned a negative reading.
Charnock was then subjected to an oral fluid test which subsequently produced a positive detection to Methamphetamines.
He was arrested for the purpose of a secondary oral fluid test and taken to Cowra Police Station.
The secondary test returned a positive reading to Methamphetamines.
The remainder of the sample was sent to the NSW Forensic and Analytical Science Service at Lidcombe.
The NSW Forensic and Analytical Science Service test also returned a positive reading to Methamphetamines.
In relation to the taking of the drugs, Charnock told police, "I had some meth on Christmas night".
In sentencing, Magistrate Michael O'Brien fined Charnock $200 and his licence was disqualified for three months
