The region may have already seen its fair share of snow in recent times, but overall June is proving to be warmer than usual with one location recording a mean maximum almost two degrees above average.

Oberon, which is usually known for its very brisk winters, has recorded the highest temperatures above its usual winter median.

The median maximum temperature for the first 10 days of June in Oberon was 11.2 degrees, which was 1.7 degrees above the town's long-term average.

Also much warmer than usual so far this month is Wellington with a median top temperature of 17.5 degrees, which is 1.5 above the average for June.

Bathurst has been 1.3 degrees warmer than average, with a median of 13.9 degrees this month, compared to the June average of 12.6.

All other locations in the region have seen a median maximum of at least 0.2 above the long-term June average (see graph below)

Warmer than average weather is expected to continue on Tuesday and Wednesday before the mercury dips back down to usual June temperatures.

Earlier this month the Bureau of Meteorology predicted this winter to be warm and dry for the region and that there was at least a 70 per cent chance that the region would not exceed its median rainfall for the season.
