Another big week in Veterans' Golf as Pinkerton takes the cake

In ideal weather conditions on Thursday, May 16, a field of 27 veteran golfers played a nine hole Stableford at the Cowra Golf Club.

Some of the Veterans were absent, having travelled to Grenfell to play in a veterans' district competition.

Les PINKERTON was the clear winner with 22 points followed by Rod HAUG with 20 points.

We should acknowledge that Peter KIRWAN, our many times Cowra Golf Club champion, has just qualified as a veteran and is in third place off a plus handicap of three and he will be off a plus-six handicap for his next event.

There were nine prize winners, who are listed with their Stableford score, and the handicap they played off in brackets.

  • 22 Les PINKERTON (22)
  • 20 Rod HAUG (22)
  • 19 Peter KIRWAN (+3)
  • 19 Ken HARCOMBE (9)
  • 19 Ross SKENE (26)
  • 18 John CAMPBELL (21)
  • 18 Ray HOUGHTON (27)
  • 18 Harold BRYANT (24)
  • 17 Phil MILLARD (24)*

*On a countback from other players with 17 points.

All the prize winners will have their handicap reduced by three for future veteran events.

Players who score 16 Stableford points or less, and were not prize winners, will have their handicap increased by two for the next event.

The Cowra veterans' cohort will once again play in their regular Thursday morning competition at the Cowra Golf Club later this week.
