The Cowra Breakout 75th Anniversary Committee have released 239 medallions bearing the event's logo which are now available for sale at the Cowra Visitor Information Centre.
Chair of the Cowra Breakout 75th Anniversary Committee, Graham Apthorpe, said he hopes to see residents pick up the medallions before they are sold out.
"The medallions are very special indeed and an ideal keepsake for children and grandchildren to remember this important event," Mr Apthorpe said.
"Who knows, they may well be able to bring them along to the 100th Anniversary in 25 years time."
The significance of the number of medallions available is in reference to the number of people who were killed during the Breakout.
It was originally thought that only four Australians died in the Breakout, bringing the total number of Japanese and Australian soldiers killed to 238.
However the total has been updated after it was discovered a fifth solider from Blayney was also killed during the conflict.
Along with the medallion, recipients also receive a certificate of authenticity signed by Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West.

The committee have also released memorabilia for the event, including mugs and beanies which are also available from the Visitors Centre.
The commemorations are planned across three days, from August 3 to 5, 2019.
Events will include the Cowra 75: From Guns to Garden exhibition at Cowra Regional Art Gallery, a 1940s theme day featuring decorated businesses, a street parade, stalls, displays, entertainment, lectures and a swing dance; guided tours of the POW site and a World Peace Bell ceremony.
This will culminate in the Breakout commemorative event at POW Camp site on Sunday, August 4 and in the early morning of Monday, August 5.
The medallions are $50 and available now until sold out.
