The Cowra Blues women's AFL team has won their first game in the AFL Central West competition, beating an inaccurate Parkes Panthers by seven points over at North Parkes Oval.

In an interesting quirk, the result means that the Blues men's and women's teams both won their first games of the year against the same opponent and in the same round, with only the venue and scoreline differing.

The Blues got out to a fast start early, getting an early goal to jump ahead of the Parkes team away from their home deck, and went into the opening break with a six point lead.

The Blues players came out and put on another goal during the third quarter, frustrating the Panthers' players attempts to get back on a level footing...

The early lead was the first time the Blues had led in a match this year, but the Panthers didn't hold back in the second quarter, controlling momentum in every area but the scoreboard, kicking five straight behinds, with the Blues up by a solitary point at half time.

Unperturbed, the Blues players came out after the long break and put on another goal during the third quarter, frustrating the Panthers' players attempts to get back on a level footing.

With the final quarter leaving the two teams only eight points apart in a low scoring game, the two teams broke even with a goal each in the last quarter, allowing the Cowra women to sing the song for the first time this year.

The Blues will now head to Bathurst to take on the Bushrangers, with bounce-down at 12.30pm.
