To coincide with the official opening of the 2019 Calleen Art Award, "The Calleen Collection" was launched in front of a large crowd on Saturday night.
Author of the book, Peter Haines, said the process of writing the book reflected the transformation of art during the past four decades.
"It was a really interesting exercise over the period that it took me to write on each of the artists, plus the introduction and that it made me re-look, and that's what art is about as well, not writing about art, but art is about making you look again and again and again," he said.
"It coincides with the resurgence of regional art in Australia... it's a celebration of a regional practice and the celebration of a regional gallery."
The Calleen Art Award was founded in 1977 by Patricia Fagan OAM.
