The third-placed home team jumped out of the blocks, with two tries to Amani Waqabuli and singles to Garrizo Gonzarlo, Vilikesa Koilagi and Navitalai Bola ensuring that the Eagles put up a score quickly, leading 31-5 at half-time.
However, in the second half, the ledger levelled up quickly, with scores to Forbes' Adam Hall, Isac Stewart, Ben Kelly, Ben Powlay making the contest a closer one than many expected at half-time.
It was a situation that left Eagles co-coach Col Kilby both happy with the win yet happy to acknowledge there were plenty of areas where his team could improve coming out of the Easter break.
"You're always pleased with a win, [but it's] disappointing we only stuck to our structure for about 25 minutes," Kilby said.
"We had pretty good opportunist tries that came off with good vision from players, but at the same time, we took some poor options and put ourselves under pressure."
The co-coach, who mentors the first grade alongside Col Jeffs, said the amount of penalties the side gave away was also cause for concern.
"We'll look at not gifting the field position as we did, we gave a lot of penalties away and turned a lot of ball over in bad areas," he said.
It was the opposite scenario for Forbes, who lamented their first-half performance while finding some positives to take out of the game late, as their coaching co-ordinator, Phil Prior observed.
"The pleasing thing is, last week we had that 15-minute lapse after half time, which didn't happen this week... It was those 20 minutes in the first half that killed us," Prior said.
"It's been the second week in a row that our scrum has been outstanding... today our scrum was much better then Cowra's but the scoreboard doesn't show that."
Forbes will host the Bathurst Bulldogs at Grinsted Oval after the Easter break, while the Eagles will take on last year's Premiers, the Orange Emus at home, in a battle of two of this year's undefeated teams.

Platypi women deliver first win
Earlier in the day, the combined Cowra-Canowindra women's team faced a big leveller in the form of a Forbes Platypi team eager to rebound from their first loss of the season, with the Platypi running out winners in a convincing 82-12 victory.
Former Eagle Lillyann Mason-Spice scored three tries for Forbes, with multiple tries also going to Maggie Townsend (three) and Cate Loneragan (two).
Bec Eastaway and Chelsea Amone were the lone scorers for the Python-Eagles, with Tarcia Skinner converting one of her two opportunities.
Forbes' women's coach, Tom Macleay was rapt for his team, in what was the first game the newly formed side had won.
"The amount of points they scored today is the most points any of the Forbes sides have scored this year, so that's absolutely glorious..." he said.
"They should be very proud of themselves, I'm proud of them, the town's proud of them, it doesn't get much better than that."
Macleay, who also coached the second-grade side to win on Saturday afternoon, added that there was still plenty of room for improvement despite the impressive result.
"...there's never perfection in the game of rugby, so [there's] a few little things [to improve on]: slipping off tackles late, fitness and more talk around the field," he noted.
After the Easter break, Forbes will host the West Wyalong Redbacks, while the Python-Eagles will host the Orange Emus women's side at Canowindra's Tom Clyburn Oval when they return to try and get their second win for the year.
