Last year’s event was a sell out, with people from all over the Central West enjoying the contemporary folk music provided by our local, Australian and Canadian artists.
On Friday April 12, 2019, the Woodstock Memorial Hall Committee, in partnership with the Festival of Small Halls, will welcome Canadian trio The Once, Australian star John Flanagan and local artists Josh Maynard and Josie Laver to the Woodstock Memorial Hall for an evening of world-class entertainment.
They’ve been chosen for the tour not only because of their beautiful songs and tunes, but because they have the ability to really connect with the people they play for, whether through storytelling, the ability to tell a good joke, wonderful warmth and a real interest in visiting places a little off the beaten track.
Thick harmonies and Celtic sounding hues draped upon plucked guitar and banjo strings are the features that define the Canadian trio, The Once.
The Once is a folk trio based in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.
The group features Geraldine Hollett on lead vocals and vocalist-instrumentalists Phil Churchill and Andrew Dale playing a variety of instruments.
The group performs a mix of original and traditional material and is noted for their three part harmonies.
John Flanagan combines 60s and 70s folk singer/songwriter influences with a contemporary Americana/bluegrass sound, he describes his sounds as '70s folk singer songwriter style, meets Appalachian mountain music, meets Paul Kelly'.
John Flanagan has proven himself a song writing force. His engaging, honest lyricism and timeless melodies have seen him pick up song-writing awards all over and win over fans at many major music festivals around the country.
John won the respect of the Australian roots music scene when he took out the prestigious Gympie Music Muster Talent Search in 2013.
The tour is hosted by volunteers from the local community, so it’s also a chance for a town to show off their warmest welcome and most enthusiastic audiences.
Woodstock is a vibrant village community committed to maintaining the wonderful assets within the village.
The Woodstock Memorial Hall, dedicated to our servicemen, was built in 1924 and was a major point of focus in district’s entertainment.
It has sadly faded in the last few decades.
This Festival is the beginning of the revival of our Hall to the prominence it has held through the years, with the great assistance of the younger folk in and around the village, who have already shown their community spirit by lifting the village show.
The excitement this Festival has created in the community is amazing and brings together the past and the future, the young and the old, all bound in the music of the people.
All funds raised from this event return to the Woodstock Memorial Hall, for ongoing restoration works.
Tickets available for purchase online at www.festivalofsmallhalls.com or at Relish Home and Living or J J Dresser & Co.
Limited tickets available.
Dinner and bar facilities from 5.00pm, doors open for entertainment 6.30pm.
