Sponsored by the Cowra Bowling Club the award was one of eight announced at the Chamber’s annual business awards.
Saturday’s award’s ceremony was held at the Cowra Showground Pavilion with chamber president Jordan Core pointing out that the Chamber had received close to 300 nominations for this year’s awards.
“That’s up 74 per cent on last year and about 100 per cent on the previous year,” Mr Core said.
Explaining the process to determine the night’s winners Mr Core said the 300 nominations were narrowed to 75 finalists.
“That’s an incredible achievement, numbers that we have never seen before in the Cowra Business awards.”
Accepting the award, Cowra Glass owners Glen and Nicola Hudson thanked the business chamber and Cowra Bowling Club.
“It wasn’t really expected,” Glen said.
“Sixteen years in business this year,” Nicola said.
“All of our customers are the reason we are up here, and our awesome staff, a huge thank you to our staff, without them we wouldn’t be here at all,” Nicola said.
In the past 12 months Cowra Glass have designed and built new purpose built premises in West Cowra, relocating from their previous site in Kendal Street.
They have also revamped their operations.
New advertising, tools, equipment and training have equipped Cowra Glass as a one stop location for glass and aluminium products.
2019 will see Cowra Glass increase production and staff by offering new and exciting products and services custom built at their new premises.
Congratulating the night’s finalists and winners Mr Core said the awards were also a learning experience.
“It’s a time to take feedback on board and really listen to our customers.
“Our customers make the final decision on whether our businesses thrive or fail.
“Once we take that on (feedback) we can ensure our businesses are better than the best,” Mr Core said.
The aim of the Chamber, Mr Core added, is to ensure that Cowra is “number one”.
“We want our businesses to be number one and we want our community to be number one, that is why we volunteer our time.
“We do this by providing training courses and seminars, bringing businesses the latest information or just being someone to listen to.
“We try to make (our events) as informative and informal as possible.
“We’ll continue to work with you and for you and when the economy is strong again we’ll be so much better off.”
“In 2019 we are bringing so much more to Cowra with the launch of the Cowra Business Hub as an extension of the Cowra Business Chamber in partnership with Cowra Council.”
An official launch for the Cowra Business Hub will take on February 23 in Cowra Plaza from 6pm.
Service NSW will be sponsoring the launch and providing guest speaker, Carmel Meznari who is Director, Engagement and Business Development, Service NSW.
“This hub will be a central location for innovation, rural resilience and economic development for local business,” Mr Core said.
“The purpose of the hub will be to provide assistance, training, mentoring as well as business skills for the local community.
“This is something my team and I are extremely passionate about.
Grant funding has helped make the Hub a reality with funding received from Cowra Shire Council for a two year period.
Funding has also been forthcoming from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
Australian Apprenticeship Support Services have also provided funding for courses.
