The ride has been organised by James Lambshead to raise funds for the Leukemia Foundation.
Mr Lambshead was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018 and said the ride was a chance to help an organisation that had supported him.
“Last year I got really crook and thought I had a stomach bug, ended up having a blood test and finding out I had leukemia,” he said.
“The Leukemia Foundation is a great thing, I didn’t know they existed until I was diagnosed.
“Talking to them was the last thing I thought about when I got my diagnosis but they said straight away ‘we’re here to help you,’ which was fantastic.
“I’m now on chemotherapy tablets and I’ll be on them for a few years, before hopefully I can go off them, I’m one of the lucky ones, all I’m hoping to do is help them (the Leukemia Foundation) out and people who are worse off compared to me,” he said.
James’ sister Erin Lambshead said while her brother’s diagnosis came as a shock to the family, she was proud of the work he was doing.
“It was scary, no one else in the family has had this before,” she said.
“But the doctors reassured us that he could be treated and once he found out his diagnosis ,he got in contact with the Leukemia Foundation who were very supportive.
“He wanted to pay them back and because he’s always loved bikes and been involved with them, he came up with this idea.
“Obviously he was upset and scared when he learned his diagnosis, but the positivity of doing this is helping him.
“I’m really proud of him, this is going to help others and repay everything the Leukemia Foundation has done for him,” she said.
Mr Lambshead friend and co-organiser Michael Hill said he was hoping to see as many people as possible take part in the ride.
“We’re holding it on the Saturday so they don’t have to turn around and go home straight away,” he said.
“There’s camping available here so they can bring swags and make it a family day.
“You see a lot of people go through leukemia and it makes you stop and think how lucky you are, so the more we can do for them the better.”
