Ahead of the Central West competition, Sarah said the focus would be on building up a team to set a course for the future of women’s AFL in Cowra.
“Just trying to get a team together, I'm sort of confident,” she said.
“Trying to be stronger and build a backbone.”
Day said the team was hoping to recruit more older players this year.
“In previous years we’ve had younger girls help field the team but they often have other commitments like homework or work,” she said.
“We hope to be stronger with older players rather than relying on the younger girls.”
While it is hard to say whether the team has finals aspirations at the moment, Day said women who join the team have the opportunity to try and play at a representative level.
“We are just trying to get players and get them developed, there is a representative team as well so we will try and get Cowra players involved,” she said.
“We had two Cowra players last year get on the team and represent Cowra and get the word out the AFL is around.”
Day had a short stint coaching at the end of last year’s season and says she’s looking forward to the challenge.
“I like to have control and voice my opinion,” she said.
“I’ve been working with Chris to find players.”
Day said Chris was very supportive during last year’s season and believes the two of them can combine well to coach the women’s side.
“We work together really well, we have a good bond,” she said.
“He helped out last year, he has a lot of knowledge of AFL so he’s good at the knowledge side of things while I’m good at recruitment and bonding.”
