Beginning in 2011, the inaugural Western Challenge Carnival was won by hosts Canowindra Tigers.
Previous winners of the tournament include Bathurst St Pats (2012, 2016, 2017 & 2018) Orange Hawks (2013) and Orange Cyms (2014/15)
The day is expected to commence at 10am.
Game duration will be 20 or 30 minutes (2 X 10 or 15 minute halves) dependent on entry numbers
All teams will play a minimum of two games.
The 2018 Western Challenge League Tag carnival attracted 22 entries from across the region with tournament organisers anticipating similar numbers for this year’s event.
The carnival was broken up into four pools, with the winners of each pool earning a spot in the semi-finals.
Previous winners of the competition include Canowindra, in 2011, Orange Hawks, in 2013, and Orange CYMS in 2014 and 2015 and more recently Bathurst St Pats.
Depending on numbers all three fields at Tom Clyburn Oval are expected to be in operation throughout the day.
Semi-finals are scheduled to start at 3pm.
Tackle competition begins on Saturday
Ladies’ tackle action kicks off this weekend with the Western Women’s rugby league competition kicking off on Saturday, February 9.
The first game of the competition sees Canowindra host Mudgee on Saturday, February 9.
The Under 15’s game takes to the paddock at 3.30pm, followed by the Under 18s at 4.30pm and 1st grade at 5.30pm.
The following weekend, Saturday, February 16 is between Grenfell and Panorama in Grenfell.
Kick off for the Under 15s is at 3.30pm, followed by the under 18s at 4.30pm and 1st grade at 5.30pm.
Dubbo hosts the third match on Sunday 24 with a match against Waratahs.
It’s an earlier start for this match with the Under 15s at 10.30am, the under 18s at 11.30am and the first grade fixtured timed to start at 12.30pm.
Condobolin is the venue for the competition on Saturday, March 2 against the Vipers.
The Vipers don’t have a first grade side but Condobolin will take them on in the Under 15s from 3.30pm, the under 18s from 4.30pm.
Baradine then host Castlereagh on Saturday, March 9.
The first grade teams will meet at 6pm after earlier matches between the Under 15s from 4pm and the Under 18s at 5pm.
