The brief hope of a summer storm abandoning play was all the Valleys could really hope for as they went into field against the Cambridge Cats last Saturday, after setting the Parkes side 139 for victory.

Greg Garlick was the first to fall caught for just two immediately followed by Ben Cole bowled for just three leaving Valleys at 2-10.
Jacob McNaught was the next to depart caught and bowled for seven leaving Jackson Moodie and Ben Houghton to steady the ship.
Moodie and Houghton then combined for a partnership of 74 before Moodie was caught for 45 (4-99). Houghton then left shortly after, bowled for 30 (5-101).
Sam Long was then last batsman to put up resistance against the Cats bowling posting 20 through a number of partnerships with Sam McNaught, Darcy Callaghan and Ky Johnson.
Long was finally dismissed with Valleys 9-138, leaving Emerson Barrato and Aldo Lovett to round out Valleys innings. Lovett was dismissed for a duck while Barrato was not out for one, ending Valley’s innings at 138.
In reply the Cats took things slow and steady using only six batsman to beat the total set by Valleys.
It took only 23 minutes for the Cats opening partnership to be broken with Anthony Riach caught by Jacob McNaught for 16.
A strong partnership between Zac Bayliss and Dan Wilson soon followed with the pair scoring 72 between themselves before Bayliss was caught by Ky Johnson leaving the Cats 2-93.
Wilson was then joined by Mitch Cambourn who posted another strong partnership bringing the Cats total to 3-128 when Wilson bowled out by Emerson Barrato for 39.
Cambourn was the final batsman to fall having been caught by Ben Cole with the Cats on 4-134. Mitch Wright and Shane Jones rounded out the match with six wickets to spare (4-140).
