Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, said the gallery would receive almost $51,000 for the installation of new LED lighting.
“A bit over $50,000 to improve the lighting and amenity of this wonderful gallery. which we know is loved both here in Cowra and well beyond Cowra,” Ms Cooke said.
“I'm pleased that we as a government continue to support the arts in this way.”
Cowra Regional Art Gallery Director Brian Langer said the new lighting will allow the works in the gallery to be presented in a more professional way.
“As you’d imagine, I am very excited about the prospect of being able to light our exhibitions in this fabulous way,” he said.
“It's coming from so many different mediums now, it’s painting, photographer, ceramics, glass, all those sorts of things and they all need specialised lighting and this is what this new lighting is going to be able to achieve.”
Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West said the use of LED lighting will be cheaper to run and that Council is matching the funding.
“It (LED) gives a much better quality of light, much cheaper and environmentally friendly,” Cr West said.
The gallery will also receive $20,000 in annual, recurrent funding under the Arts and Cultural Organisations Program from Create NSW.
“The recurrent expenditure is very much appreciated and that will go a long way to helping the gallery provide the high quality of service they do for the community,” Cr West said.
